It’s Throwback Thursday and we’re taking it back to when we first caught the buzz over the Honda Pilot. The 2022 Honda Pilot is set to hit official Honda dealerships across the United States in the near future. This world-renowned three-row mid-size crossover SUV is currently in its third generation—which began in the 2016 model year—and remains among the most popular models within its vehicle segment.
For 2022, the Honda Pilot is entering the seventh year of its third generation on the mainstream auto market. It is rumored that the Pilot will undergo a complete redesign and receive a variety of updates, upgrades, and all-new features for the 2023 model year. The 2023 Pilot might even be the first model in the fourth generation of the Pilot. Because it is expected to be redesigned for the 2023 model year, it makes sense that the 2022 Pilot does not come with many new features. That being said, there are definitely some notable changes between the 2021 Pilot and the 2022 Pilot.
The changes between the 2021 Honda Pilot and the 2022 Honda Pilot are minor, but differences between these models do exist. If you’re interested in making the latest Honda Pilot model your next vehicle, keep reading to learn more about what’s new for this three-row mid-size crossover SUV for the 2022 model year.
Trim Level Shifts
If you’re considering making the 2022 Honda Pilot your next vehicle, it’s important to look carefully at the trim levels that are available for the Pilot for the 2022 model year. Between 2021 and 2022, Honda shifted the trim levels for the Pilot by dropping this three-row mid-size crossover SUV’s two lowest trim levels and adding a new base trim.
For 2021, the Honda Pilot was available in LX, EX, Special Edition, Touring, Elite, and Black Edition trim levels. For 2022, the Pilot’s base trim level is the all-new EX-L model and the LX and the EX trims are no longer available—the top four trim levels for the Pilot remained the same between the 2021 and the 2022 model years.
The prices of all of the available trim levels have changed for the Honda Pilot for the 2022 model year. The starting price for the base model of the 2022 Pilot rose by almost $7,000—from $33,775 for the 2021 Pilot LX to $40,285 for the 2022 Pilot EX-L—but the 2022 EX-L model comes with new standard features that the 2021 LX did not have.
All other trim levels of the Honda also rose in price between 2021 and 2022. However, starting prices for these mid-tier and top-tier trim levels of the Pilot rose only modestly—by less than $1,000 per trim level—between these two model years.
New Standard Features
For the 2022 model year, all models of the Honda Pilot come with a variety of newly standard features. This makes sense considering that the lowest two trim levels of the Pilot were dropped for the 2022 model year, and the base trim level for the 2022 SUV costs significantly more than it did for 2021.
On the inside, all models of the 2022 Honda Pilot come newly standard with an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system that features Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. These new features update the technology of the Pilot, which was becoming severely outdated in terms of modern standards for high-tech features in new vehicles.
All 2022 Honda Pilot models also come standard with either beige leather or black leather upholstery that gives this three-row mid-size crossover SUV a more upscale and refined look and feel. In the past, the base trim level for the 2022 Pilot was only available with a gray cloth interior.
Other newly standard features for the 2022 Pilot include an additional seat-back storage pocket, full LED headlights, and more.
Additional Exterior Color Options
The addition of two available exterior color options for the Honda Pilot for the 2022 model year might not seem like a very big change, but it is a notable update for the 2022 Honda Pilot considering the fact that the Pilot did not undergo many significant changes between the 2021 and 2022 model years.
The base trim of the 2021 Honda Pilot was available in four exterior colors—Crystal Black Pearl, Lunar Silver Metallic, Modern Steel Metallic, and Platinum White Pearl for an additional charge. For 2022, the base-level Pilot model is available in six exterior colors—Crystal Black Pearl, Lunar Silver Metallic, Modern Steel Metallic, Obsidian Blue Pearl, and Platinum White Pearl and Steel Sapphire Metallic for an additional charge.
